Dubai Duty Free’s Arrivals shop, the first of its kind in the Middle East, welcomed its first customers on New Year’s Day, as the retailer enhanced its footprint at Dubai International. The company's support for major sporting events, through organisation and sponsorship, also began. This far-sighted philosophy of promotion through association with sport at home and overseas remains to this day, delivering huge benefits for Dubai Duty Free and almost priceless visibility for Dubai as a destination.

Perfumes were among the strongest categories in the early days, and its sales continue to play a lead role today.
