Travel retail highlights

An ancient battle; an enduring legacy

The popular HBO television series Game of Thrones may have come to an epic – if controversial – conclusion but its legacy endures.

And that legacy is being celebrated in Diageo Global Travel’s release of two more Game of Thrones-inspired limited-edition Scotch whiskies.

Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice and Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire are now available in airports globally, and continue the brand’s hugely successful partnership with HBO Licensing & Retail.

Once more, the bottles and packaging feature inspired touches and nods to the show’s backstory. The sigils, or symbols, of the houses – the direwolf and the dragon – feature on the partner bottle. Most extraordinary of all, the Johnnie Walker Striding Man image uncharacteristically faces backwards on the A Song of Fire bottle, revealing a face-off with the Striding Man on the A Song of Ice bottle when paired side-by-side.

Diageo’s previous Game of Thrones-inspired releases quickly became popular with the show’s fans, becoming special collectables. The latest releases will be no different, and in selected airports they will be further brought to life through in-store displays, dragon and direwolf sculptures and sensory whisky aroma units.
