Travel retail highlights

PlayStations and vacations

When Singapore Changi Airport launched community event space ST3PS in Terminal 3 Basement 2 earlier this year, it promised family activities that would help in its goal to make the airport a “go-to destination”.

It is starting to deliver on that promise in spectacular style, with the launch of a Family Lounge event based around Sony PlayStation games. Timed to coincide with the September school holidays, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR trial units have been installed allowing travellers to play a variety of games [they must purchase a PlayPass that is available with a minimum spend at retail and F&B outlets].

The airport has also launched a visually-stunning contemporary art exhibition that allows travellers to explore China. The neon-lit exhibition is called China, Lit! and runs to 6 October. It showcases architecture, arts, culture and innovative entertainment and dining concepts in five Chinese cities – Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Xiamen.

The installation is located on the departure level of T3, and comprises neon-lit steel ring structures which take turns to light up. These are intended to reflect “the energy, dynamism and transformation of today’s China”, according to Changi.

The focal point of the installation, ‘The Portal’, lights up in different colours corresponding to each featured city, “creating a visual rhythm for visitors in addition to many Insta-worthy photo opportunities”.

It is an inspiring way to present travel ideas, and any interested passengers can visit a nearby Changi Travel Services booth to find out more about travel packages to China.

Family fun: Travellers can play PlayStation video games at Changi Airport’s Family Lounge – with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled a popular choice

A Flavours of China playground themed around the Mala hotpot, a traditional Chinese dish, has been installed. It features an obstacle course, rotating wheels, a see-saw carousel, a slide and a ball pit full of Mala hotpot ingredients
