Nestlé set up its International Travel Retail business unit in January 1999 based in Switzerland. Ahead of the game in the confectionery sector, Nestlé’s ambition then – and now – was to bring excitement to travellers willing to discover new things, offering its globally loved brands within airports, border stores, ferries etc.
In the last 20+ years Nestlé has brought to market an enviable range of exclusive products from its hero brands including KitKat, Smarties and travel retail only Nestlé Swiss, supported by regional favourites such as After Eight, Quality Street and Baci.
Nestlé believes in the potential of travel retail long term, driving conversion and sales of food to become the most purchased category through understanding consumer needs and creating engagement via its VERSE strategy (Value, Engagement, Regeneration, Sense of place, Execution).
Nestlé is committed to sustainability in all that it does via its Cocoa Plan and plastic removal policy for all confectionery brands by 2025. The company has recently announced a new plan to tackle child labour risks in cocoa production by initiating an income accelerator programme, which aims to improve the livelihoods of cocoa-farming families, while also advancing regenerative agriculture practices and gender equality.
