Aelia Duty Free serves up an ACE at Auckland Airport: In a major industry first, Lagardère Travel Retail-owned Aelia Duty Free brought in a robot to assist customers collect their pre-ordered purchases, as reviewed in this superb video from 2015.
Putting the customer first: Dubai International Airport opened its spectacular Concourse D in February 2016, increasing its capacity from 75 million to 90 million. For Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths it represented an important step towards “making flying fun again”, and this video offered a snapshot of early passenger reaction to the new facility along with footage of the services.
Dedicated followers of fashion unite: Helsinki Airport turned heads by holding a fashion show on one of its runways in May 2016. The airport aimed not only to showcase the work of seven popular designers in Europe and Asia but also to highlight its status as a smooth transfer airport between the two continents.
Celebrating duty free as never before: Korean girl band Twice starred in a colourful, cute and chaotic Lotte Duty Free promotional campaign in 2016, highlighted by this music video which sees them dressed as cheerleaders in support of the retailer. It is another example of the power of hallyu – the famed Korean Wave.
Digital challenge: As the travel retail channel has sought to rise to the ecommerce challenge in recent years, Frankfurt Airport has been a pioneer in combining travel and online shopping, as this video from 2016 shows.
