The shopper point of view

To gain deeper insight into the profile of the Chinese shopper in Hainan, Liu Tianqin, Chief TV Host of Hinews.cn Media and Head of the Duty Free Channel set out to interview the shoppers visiting the cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex.

In this exclusive video, Liu Tianqin speaks to the shoppers to learn more about where they have travelled from, their reasons for visiting Hainan, the brands that they are particularly interested in and what they ended up purchasing from the complex.

The Chinese shoppers featured in the video are purpose-driven and have specific brands and products that they intend to purchase when shopping in Hainan.

Perfumes and cosmetics reigns as the most popular category among the shoppers interviewed, with interviewees saying they are specifically looking for skincare and makeup products. Spirits, fashion and accessories were also mentioned during the interviews.

When asked about their first impressions of the cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex, Mr. Liu from Zhongshan said that it is “very comprehensive and with a nice atmosphere”, while Haikou native Ms. Meng said that, “This mall is worth a visit.”

Mr. Yang from Harbin added, “This is China’s largest duty free mall. When comparing the available brands, the overall grade is very good. The quality of decoration and the services are all pretty nice.”

Ms. Zhang from Beijing commented that the environment is very good for window shopping. She said, “The size of the place gave me the feeling of spaciousness, and the decorations of the facilities make for an overall comfortable atmosphere. In many ways it looks like some of the top shopping malls found in other countries.”

The interviewees shared positive reactions about the amount and quality of brands on offer, as well as the excellent services, facilities and decorations of the complex. Zheng added, “This place is fun. In the advertising it said there were eight thematic areas. This place is very big and everything is new. There are also many restaurants which I haven’t seen anywhere else.”

“The real highlight is the excellent service,” Mr. Yang concluded “This is basically Hainan’s single best shopping centre. While the brands are what attract people to come visit, the other facilities like the restaurants make this a full service shopping centre that can attract young people and even whole families to visit.
