Stepping inside Haikou’s duty free heaven
The spectacular new cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex, which opened on Friday, offers a dazzling array of exclusive and debut brands and stores. And a lot more besides as these dramatic photographs from the inauguration day reveal.
On the morning of October 28, the doors of the much-anticipated cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex, swung open to an expectant public.
The vast shopping emporium is anchored by the world’s largest duty free shop. Inside, China Duty Free Group (CDFG), the number one travel retailer worldwide by sales, offers more than 800 international and local brands in a stunningly ambitious setting.
The complex expertly integrates retail and catering and offers a seamless combination of online and offline services. It is intended to become a top-class “duty free shopping heaven” and an iconic city tourist spot of Hainan, CDFG commented.
Look out for our special eZine dedicated to this remarkable development in coming weeks. A joint venture with Hainan Hinews Media Co, the province’s leading media house and The Moodie Davitt Report’s strategic partner in Hainan, the multi-media publication will explore in words, photographs and exclusive film coverage this modern-day wonder of the travel retail world. Here we present a taster of the main course to follow as we step into Haikou’s duty free heaven.

A new wonder of the travel retail world comes to life in Haikou
In advance of the 28 October opening, CDFG released a short video offering a preview of the wonders within the shopping to entertainment complex. The film features Sir Richard Taylor, the co-founder of Wētā Workshop, a company closely involved in the Haikou project. He says, “The collective intent was to create a culturally rich and respectful narrative, where the customer is treated both as an audience member and a participant in this fantastical, dreamlike world.” Click on the icon to view.
