The World’s Top Travel Retailers Report

Summary: Top Travel Retailers Report 2022

The top five rankings in these pages underline the continued leadership of China Duty Free Group (CDFG), but also paint a picture of partial industry recovery in 2022. Dufry, the long-time global market number one, posted growth that mirrored the broader travel recovery across its key regions, led by the Americas and Europe.

The Korean heavyweights Lotte and Shilla, and Lagardère Travel Retail, also cemented their placings towards the top of our list.

Full rankings will appear shortly in our Magazine edition, but we can confirm that DFS Group, Gebr Heinemann, Duty Free Americas and other international players sit prominently among the top ten. The longer list is also notable for the sharp recovery of Dubai Duty Free and the continuing rise of Qatar Duty Free.

Dubai Duty Free (above) and Qatar Duty Free (below) cemented their positions in our rankings with strong performances in 2022

By next year we should see a return towards the top of the rankings of the major Asia Pacific travel retailers whose recovery has been slower due to the lag in market openings – these include King Power International Group (Thailand), Ever Rich Duty Free and others.

The rebuilding of Chinese outbound travel at scale, the efforts by many retailers to reduce their reliance on Chinese tourism, plus continued consolidation among the major players, are some of the dynamics that will shape our leading travel retailers list in the coming years.
