The video cover was put to spectacular use in this issue, featuring the high-profile launch of the T Galleria by DFS retail brand for the group’s downtown stores in Hawaii. It was an event of critical importance for DFS’s business, and our in-depth coverage made the most of the multimedia format to portray that significance – through video, photo slideshows and good old-fashioned text and pictures.

The Moodie Report eZine hit the hundred mark, with features including the brand new look for World Duty Free in Barcelona, Changi Airport Group’s plans for the consumer and retail experience at the new Terminal 4 – and intriguingly, an early, as yet unconfirmed story about DFS’ plans for move to open in Venice – the glorious opening of which became our cover story in issue 200 in October 2016.

For most of its then 135-year history Gebr Heinemann had avoided the media limelight, giving away as little as possible about its plans or ambitions in a market as deeply competitive as travel retail. That all changed in early 2014 with the company’s first ever press conference, where it revealed its ambitions to become a truly global player.

In September 2014 we were on location for a momentous day in travel retail history, as China Duty Free Group opened its hugely ambitious Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay, Hainan. The move was one of the platforms that has driven the company to world leadership status among travel retailers, as reported in issue 299 just weeks ago.
