SPIRIT OF SISTERHOOD

LESSONS OF WORTH

For 50 years, ‘Because I’m Worth It’ has been delivering a strong message of empowerment, self-esteem and self-worth to women the world over. Today, this message is deepened with ‘Lessons of Worth’, a powerful series of testimonials that features a diverse roster of L’Oréal Paris spokespeople, each one sharing what the tagline means to them. Lessons of Worth began with just one video. Two years ago, L’Oréal Paris released a raw, unedited two-minute video of award-winning American actress Viola Davis speaking directly to camera. In the short yet powerful clip, Davies delivered a stirring message inviting the audience to reconsider the phrase, ‘I’m Worth It.” The video, which was published on both Davis’ and L’Oréal Paris’ social media accounts, quickly became viral and has now been viewed more than nine million times. It was the first in the series that would become Lessons of Worth.

Commenting on the thought-provoking campaign, L’Oréal Paris Global Brand President Delphine Viguier-Hovasse said: “On the occasion of international self-esteem month, we wanted to create a spirit of sisterhood and unite our global family of inspirational spokespeople to convey strong messages of self-worth to all women. “Our spokespeople share how they have gained strength, courage and confidence through their personal experiences and provide inspiring and uplifting stories that women can relate to.” The inspiring L’Oréal Paris spokespeople featured in the Lessons of Worth campaign represents beauty in all its forms, foregoing the beauty industry’s traditionally ‘one size fits all’ perception of beauty. The diverse group of spokespeople includes movers and shakers from the worlds of film, fashion and music –with each one, personally dedicated to empowering women from all walks of life.

These include Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Aja Naomi King, Eva Longoria, Liya Kebede, Kate Winslet, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Camilla Cabello, Yseult, Leïla Bekhti, Bebe Vio, Nidhi Sunil, Helen Mirren and Andie MacDowell. They are joined by Céline Dion, Cindy Bruna, Duckie Thot, Elle Fanning, Gemma Chan, Gong Li, Jaha Dukureh, Katherine Langford, Luma Grothe, Marie Bochet and Soo Joo Park. In the moving video series, each spokesperson lays themselves bare. They each share their own personal journeys about how they came to realise their own self-worth, offering genuine insights into what it means to really say ‘I’m Worth It’ and mean it. Below, we share some of the highlights from the poignant campaign.
“Are you worth staying ambitious and vital and refusing to shut up, because you know deep down that something is right? Now I know the only way to really be – is to be without compromise.”
Jane Fonda
“That voice breaks through the noise, helps me get up when I fall down, forgive myself when I go wrong and encourages me to keep growing. That’s the voice I choose to listen to.”
