Norway Tenders

Deepening diversity in Norwegian airport dining

We round up the latest developments as tenders are issued for food & beverage at key Norwegian airports.

Airport company Avinor has just begun a major tender programme covering all food & beverage outlets at Oslo, Stavanger and Bodø airports, one that has excited strong interest among potential partners. It follows bids for duty free and speciality retail over the past two years.

The contracts cover around 35 units at Oslo Airport, ten at Stavanger Airport and two at Bodø Airport, with an estimated value of €450 million over the contract period.

Each of the tender packages is being issued separately, with Oslo in late September, and Stavanger and Bodø in early October.

In April, the company launched an awareness campaign about the forthcoming opportunities in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report.

The Oslo Airport opportunities have excited interest among F&B players large and small

The key Oslo tender encompasses bakeries, coffee shops, fast food, gastropubs and casual dining outlets. These are being tendered as a mix of bundled concessions and stand-alone contracts. That should allow larger players to operate at scale while still offering opportunity for individual brands and local players, according to Avinor.

Avinor said it is looking to strengthen its F&B offer across categories through “a more diversified concept mix and new concept formats”, with an innovative approach to technology also welcomed.

Avinor said it aims to widen choice for consumers through the broader mix and to introduce more local and international brands that are popular in the Norwegian market.

As stated in an interview with senior commercial management in June, the airport company is encouraging potential partners – local, regional and from around the world – to take part in the tenders, saying that the process will be open, transparent and fair to all.

The company highlighted how Norway is “a highly attractive location for airport F&B and retail”, with strong passenger growth and opportunities for partners existing and new.

The food & beverage channel at Oslo Airport has an annual turnover of around €80 million from around 6.5 million customers. At Stavanger the annual value of the F&B business is around €8 million.
