A special celebration for GDF Plaza
Global Premium Duty Free (GDF) Plaza celebrated its first anniversary in spectacular style at Haikou Mova Mall in January. The Moodie Davitt Report brought readers extensive coverage of the celebrations, including an exclusive video in association with Hainan Hinews Media Co, our strategic partner in Hainan province. Shiseido’s powerful 3D campaign in Hainan
Shiseido Travel Retail welcomed the Year of the Tiger with a high-impact 3D video animation for prestige brand Shiseido at the entrance of Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex in Sanya. The pioneering 3D initiative was a first for Shiseido Group, as it began the celebrations for its 150th anniversary (see below).
Capturing the thrill of flying again at Changi Airport
In February, a wonderfully warm video from Singapore Changi Airport captured the excitement of flying again after a break of two years for many passengers. Departing travellers expressed their emotions about embarking on a journey again, and about embracing the airport experience.
Duty Free Shop Puerto Iguazú marks 20th anniversary
“I am moved by the thought of everything we have achieved over these past 20 years, and everything we will achieve in the future with all our incredible potential.” So said London Supply Group President Teddy Taratuty as the company’s flagship complex, Duty-Free Shop Puerto Iguazú, marked 20 years of operations in March.
‘A bridge between two savoir-faire’ – Givenchy and Glenmorangie’s dazzling dual showcase with Dubai Duty Free
Two LVMH-owned houses, Givenchy and Glenmorangie, joined forces with Dubai Duty Free in a unique collaboration showcasing the craft and artistry of perfume creation and whisky making. The partners began an extensive month-long range of activations across the world’s busiest international gateway on 2 May.
DFS Group marks 50 years at San Francisco Airport in glittering style
Leading luxury travel retailer DFS Group hosted a glittering ceremony at San Francisco International Airport on 1 June to unveil its renovated retail concepts and celebrate 50 years of operations at the location. The event at the Airport’s Terminal G concourse kicked off 50 days of celebration to highlight exclusive products and gifts as well as local discoveries from the Bay Area. The video shows a snapshot of the celebrations.
“A momentous day” – ANA-Vinci Airports and ARI launch Portugal Duty Free
This video celebrates a landmark day for Vinci Airports group company ANA Aeropuertos de Portugal and Aer Rianta International (ARI), with the official launch of Portugal Duty Free in June.
ANA appointed Aer Rianta International (ARI) as its new joint-venture partner for duty free and duty paid retail concessions across eight airports in Portugal – Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira Islands (Madeira and Porto Santo), and Azores Islands (Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria and Horta), with operations starting on 1 June.
The Estée Lauder Companies unveils travel retail-dedicated Galgenen Distribution Centre
Also in June The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) unveiled a state-of-the-art new distribution centre in Galgenen, Switzerland designed to accommodate the anticipated dynamic growth of its key global travel retail business (which marked 30 years in 2022).
Travel retail is one of the US beauty powerhouse’s most important growth channels; a business which reaches over three billion customers annually. The channel contributed 28% of ELC’s sales in fiscal 2021, compared with just 6% in 2004. This latest project will help sustain that impressive growth path well into the future.
Entrepreneur, rights campaigner and double amputee Stephenie Rodriguez on resilience
Travel retail consultant and serial entrepreneur Stephenie Rodriguez has assumed a new role addressing major international forums that focus on resilience. As reported, the Jozu for Women CEO and WanderSafe personal protection device developer cheated death following a long battle against cerebral malaria and sepsis in 2019.
At a physical and online TEDxLytteltonWomen forum in South Africa, she spoke compellingly about resilience and the need for listeners to realise that their best friend in difficult times is themselves.
Shiseido marks 150th anniversary
As Shiseido Group celebrated its milestone 150th anniversary this year, the Japanese beauty giant released a special video timed to coincide with the launch of its powerful ‘From life comes beauty’ global campaign.
DFS boost as Chinese pop star Jay Chou prompts online ‘frenzy’ with La Samaritaine video
Samaritaine Paris Pont-Neuf by DFS received a tremendous boost in July after Jay Chou, the hugely popular Chinese singer, songwriter, actor and TV personality, released his latest music video set in the famed La Samaritaine department store.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the release prompted an “online frenzy” with the hashtag Greatest Work of Art generating over 230 million clicks on Weibo, 1.74 million clicks on Youtube, and the video being played more than 2.66 million times on Bilibili (in the first 24 hours).
“As he only releases albums every few years this is a big deal in China,” a DFS spokesperson told The Moodie Davitt Report.
Bouncing back in Bangkok
Martin Moodie’s film from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, shot in August, revealed an encouraging bounceback in business at Thailand’s principal gateway and showed the stellar latest additions to King Power International’s luxury line-up, including new Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Bvlgari, Cartier and Chanel boutiques.
The spirit of New York shines at completed LaGuardia Terminal B
This video from August tells the story of the transformation of New York LaGuardia Airport Terminal B, opened in June 2020 and completed this year. It features architectural and design finishes inspired by New York’s neighbourhoods, a collection of public art installations commissioned for the terminal and a commercial district featuring an array of shops and restaurants promoting New York names alongside global brands.
