Travel Retail Highlights

The power of eight

In this section we present selected highlights of stand-out campaigns and launches from the world of travel retail, with a special focus on the hotspot of Hainan Island’s offshore duty free sector. These stories draw in part on coverage from our popular Hainan Curated newsletter, in association with Foreo, and our fast-growing WeChat Official Account, on which posts dedicated to the China travel retail market are published each week.

Sunday 13 June was a red-letter day for Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex (HTDF) as the travel retailer formally opened the TimeVallée luxury watch boutique concept at its Sanya store, featuring eight leading luxury watch brands. The opening is an important affirmation of the retailer’s luxury credentials. Richemont-owned TimeVallée is an innovative multi-brand concept offered to all luxury watch brands and operated by external independent partners. The company aims to deliver an upscale and engaging store experience that goes beyond traditional retail norms in its environments. The TimeVallée boutique collection, sited on the first floor of the Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex, features Baume & Mercier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis and Vacheron Constantin. The new boutique offers a wide range of timepieces from top maisons, including Piaget’s popular Possession and Sunlight collections, and Roger Dubuis’s show-stopping Skeleton Flying Tourbillon watches. Xie Zhiyong, Chairman and General Manager of licence holder Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co, Paragon International Managing Director Chen Zhengxin, Baume & Mercier brand representative Li Jingda and other senior executives attended the opening ribbon-cutting ceremony. In the elegant store design, soft lighting and shadow effects and the spacious product display complement each other, underlining the allure of the watch collection. “The introduction of eight top watch brands will not only provide consumers with a channel to explore the rich history and inheritance of each brand, but also contribute to the duty free business of Hainan Free Trade Port,” a Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex spokesperson said. The store already offers more than 500 internationally renowned brands, bolstered by this addition of eight top watch brands – including Roger Dubuis making its offshore duty free debut in Hainan. “In the future, we will continue to introduce more brands that consumers love, in order to provide them with a more diversified shopping experience,” the spokesperson said.
