Positive Disruptors

Airport shopping brought to your home

If you can’t bring customers to your stores, bring the stores to your customers. We report on an innovative online proposition from the operator of Darwin International and Alice Springs airports.

Northern Territory Airports, which runs Darwin and Alice Springs airports, this month launched Onsale.ntairports.com.au – an initiative that helps its crisis-hit retail partners open up to new customer segments.

“In the past airport retailers were largely restricted to selling to passengers and the impact of COVID has hit airport retailers hard,” said Head of Business Development, Interstate and International at Northern Territory Airports Shane de Wit.

“On Sale will generate new sales from customers who aren’t travelling – helping these businesses retain staff and increase their work hours.”

The range features many brands across multiple categories, from beauty to fashion and from toys to technology.

“We’ve worked with our partners #Lottetravelretailaustralia [Lotte Duty Free -Ed] and awpl to develop a site that offers airport quality at discounted prices. With free delivery for residents of Darwin and Alice Springs (A$9.50 national delivery), and Click and Collect from Darwin International Airport Pty Ltd (including free parking and a free coffee thrown in), we are sure #Territorians will love the site,” added de Wit.

The initiative mirrors those at other airports and countries, with the industry benefiting from the sale of undepleted goods to eager consumers who cannot travel (internationally).
