SENSE OF PURPOSE
SOLIDARITY SOURCING
Preserving the beauty of the planet also means preserving its biodiversity. L’Oréal Groupe is committed to protecting and preserving natural ecosystems which have been damaged, with major consequences for communities across the world.
L’Oréal Groupe launched a ‘Solidarity Sourcing’ programne in 2010. The programme directs a proportion of global purchases to suppliers who employ people from vulnerable communities, allowing them to have a durable access to work and income. So far, the programme is operating 365 projects in 709 local communities across 61 countries, helping 89,093 beneficiaries gain access to fair work. This represents an additional 7,955 people compared to 2020, an increase of +9.8%.
The programme has been recognised by the United Nations and has been identified as best practice for inclusive sourcing. The Solidarity Sourcing Programme celebrates and valorises the differences of each person.
It stimulates value creation by empowering people, embracing diversity of ideas, encouraging innovation and turning a social inclusion commitment into a competitive advantage.
Caring together for a happier tomorrow
The rose is not just a symbol of Lancôme – it is also one of the brand’s favourite ingredients. The rose is present under various forms in Lancôme skincare products, fragrances and makeup: it is used as an essential oil, hydrolate or even rosewood. 99% of the roses used in Lancôme skincare and makeup products are organic.
Protecting, preserving and restoring biodiversity are at the heart of Lancôme’s strategy. The brand limits its agricultural footprint thanks to its sustainable and fair-trade cultivation and sourcing of ingredients. It also harnesses green chemistry and biotechnology to limit the use of natural resources. Lancôme is also using more recyclable materials when it comes to product packaging. Finally, Lancôme sponsors several leading institutions to carry out biodiversity conservation projects.
For Lancôme, protecting biodiversity begins with implementing regenerative and responsible farming practices. This commitment starts at home, in Grasse, where the brand acquired the Le Domaine de la Rose estate. Here, Lancôme is stepping up its initiatives, not just on the land that it cultivates in France, but also with its partners around the world.
Lancôme has also partnered with France’s National Museum of History to help protect 24 endangered plant species including the Rose of France (Rosa gallica).
All of Lancôme’s commitments are grouped together under its sustainability programme, ‘Caring Together for a Happier Tomorrow’. In addition to its goals of protecting biodiversity and the planet’s resources, the brand promotes sustainable consumption by offering refillable, rechargeable and recyclable products.
And with its philanthropic cause Write Her Future, Lancôme is committed to empowering women since 2017 by providing access to education, mentoring and entrepreneurship.
