Travel Retail Highlights

Sense of discovery

One of the world’s great luxury and beauty names – Chanel – signalled its faith in the return of travel and travel retail last week with the opening of Chanel Beauty Studio at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport Terminal 2E. The luxury house partnered with the Société de Distribution Aéroportuaire joint venture between Paris Aéroports and Lagardère Travel Retail to open a 44sq m boutique near Gate E in one of CDG’s main international terminals. Dynamic design and display, allied to a range of exclusives and regular new product selections, should make this a compelling attraction for travellers as they return to the Paris hub. Digitalisation lies at the heart of ensuring engagement with travellers. Equipped with augmented reality capabilities, the boutique offers Chanel Try-On, allowing customers to virtually test makeup products in a safe and contactless manner. The store also features a lip bar with more than 200 Chanel lipstick shades. The shades are displayed on a vibrant 3D wall of lipstick cases. The fragrance wall features a graphic composition of packaging and shines the spotlight on the Les Eaux des Chanel and Les Exclusifs de Chanel lines. The two fragrance collections — developed by in-house Fragrance Creator Oliver Polge — are divided by an art deco mirror which pays homage to Gabrielle Chanel’s famous mirrored staircase in her studio in 31 Rue Cambon. Skincare and eyewear are also featured. Chanel said: “With the opening of this new Chanel Beauty Studio, the Maison reinforces a bold, unique shopping experience, in which creation, expertise and a sense of discovery unite in captivating surroundings.”
