VOYAGE INTO THE NIGHT

La Prairie unveils ‘Sense of Blue’

in Art Basel

La Prairie and French digital artist Maotik have partnered to bring cobalt blue to life with the multi-sensorial ‘Sense of Blue’ art installation. Sense of Blue made its global debut at Art Basel 2021, marking La Prairie’s first public project for the prestigious art fair. Sense of Blue pays homage to cobalt blue, a colour with deep resonance for the Swiss skincare house. Cobalt blue is the colour of La Prairie’s iconic Skin Caviar Collection and most recently, the Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil, its newest innovation that puts the night at the centre of a new beauty ritual.

Sense of Blue was debuted at the 2021 edition of Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland. The immersive installation gradually immerses audiences into darkness using motion sensors, video projections and hidden digital algorithms. The installation marries a mysterious minimal aesthetic with technical sophistication that enables viewers to use movement to shape their environment through shifting light facets.

The experience begins with a play of shimmering effects, followed by flashing lights pulsing in erratic rhythms. The installation reaches its climax with the emergence of a luminous circle tinged with cobalt blue that illuminates the surrounding darkness.

La Prairie hosted a lounge at Art Basel which displayed an augmented reality experience of Sense of Blue, where visitors could experience the installation using virtual headsets.

The lounge also showcased La Prairie’s latest Skin Caviar creations, with a special focus on the latest innovation: Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil.
