The Moodie Davitt Report recently launched a new column, ‘Better moments make the world smile’ in association with Mars Wrigley International Travel Retail. In this feature we cast the spotlight on memorable human moments from around the world of travel, aviation and travel retail.

As travel returns, we are seeing many special, personal moments created by our industry and those that work within it. For this issue’s column, we have selected a heart-warming story of a special visitor to Switzerland from Peru, who arrived via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. At the heart of the moment is KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which has received the highest praise from Hans Bühler, a Partner at Swiss accounting firm blueAUDIT. The Dutch flag carrier showing kindness to the special passenger – Hans’ 94-year-old grandmother Ilse. Hans travelled from Zürich to Amsterdam Schiphol to collect his grandmother, who was travelling to see him from Lima, Peru. When he got there, he found that the crew and captain of her KLM transport had all personally greeted the 94-year-old lady and presented her with flowers on the flight.

Staff at Schiphol arranged for Hans to collect his grandmother personally from her plane. Hans said this in a LinkedIn post: “I was happy to have the opportunity to pick her up personally in Amsterdam and have it all arranged by the staff at Schiphol. “My grandmother used to be an air hostess back in 1950 and at 94 she is always happy to fly again and again. Certainly an act of kindness worth sharing!” Asked for the secret of how his grandmother looks much younger than her real age by a post response, Hans replied: “She says that three things are important: healthy eating, a daily walk and enjoy the time with family and friends as much as possible!”
