ACT FOR GOOD
For People and Planet
Act for people
80% of cancer patients suffer from harsh skin side-effects as a direct result of treatment. This can come in the form of cutaneous side-effects to severe skin reactions caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Some side effects are so extreme that they can cause patients to slow down or even stop their therapy entirely. La Roche-Posay believes that these side effects can be prevented before, during and after treatment with simple skin protocols, such as cleansing, moisturising and protective gestures, as recommended by dermatological experts.
Since 2008, La Roche-Posay has made it its mission to tackle the effects of cancer treatment on skin, working with dermatologists, oncologists and other experts in the field to find solutions. Since then, La Roche-Posay has treated over 21,000 post-cancer patients in the Centre Thermal La Roche-Posay.
The brand started the ‘Fight With Care’ initiative to help cancer patients improve their quality of life. The project raises awareness, trains healthcare professionals and supports NGOs through product donations and financial support. In 2022, La Roche-Posay became an official supporter of the Union for International Cancer Control, continuing to lead the fight against cancer. Through this initiative, it aims to educate 1 billion people on the skin side-effects of cancer treatments by 2024.
“La Roche-Posay has been a purpose-driven brand since its creation,” Lecerf says. “The brand was born to cure patients with various skin issues and has always been committed to bringing life-changing dermatology to consumers everywhere. This not only means offering effective skincare products, but also underlines our mission to give our consumers a good quality of life.”
It also started the ‘Save Your Skin’ campaign, which promotes early detection methods for melanoma. In partnership with local dermatologists, both projects have been expressed in various forms in travel retail, spreading the brand’s ‘Act for Good’ message to travellers the world over.
Act for the Planet: Formulas that are responsible for marine life
For more than 20 years, La Roche-Posay has been committed to researching the impact of suncare products on marine life.
The brand evaluates each formula, going much further than the mandatory tests for suncare products. In line with this mission, it has teamed up with experts to create new standards of testing, particularly on corals with the Scientific Centre of Monaco.
Sustainable packaging
La Roche-Posay is a pioneer in the propagation of carton tubes and refill formats with the aim of reducing its use of virgin plastics. Its carboard-based tubes and shoulderless caps represent a -75% reduction in virgin plastics compared to its original packaging, while its refill formats represent a -77% reduction.
“At La Roche-Posay Travel Retail, we are committed to offering eco-friendly packaging as soon as the products are available,” comments L’Oréal Travel Retail Dermatological Beauty & Professional Products Divisions General Manager Anne-Laure Lecerf.
“This includes our suncare products, such as the Anthelios Hydrating Lotion. Later in the summer, our bodycare product Lipikar AP+M will also change its packaging and will be available in a white paper tube that reduces plastic use by -60%.”
Solidarity Sourcing
La Roche-Posay has been a key contributor to L’Oréal Groupe’s Solidary Sourcing programme in Burkina Faso since 2014.
The brand supports women shea butter farmers by offering the pre-financing of crops, fair prices and access to training. It has also helped establish community projects within local, women co-ops and farming communities.
L’Oréal Groupe sources 100% of its shea butter and shea olein needs from the Burkina Faso Solidarity Sourcing programme, with the harvesting and processing of Shea nuts playing an important role in giving the women farmers financial independence.
The programme benefits more than 26,000 women in Burkina Faso.
