The Moodie Davitt Report last year launched a column, ‘Better moments make the world smile’ in association with Mars Wrigley International Travel Retail. In this regular feature we cast the spotlight on memorable human moments from around the world of travel, aviation and travel retail.

As travel returns, we are seeing many special, personal moments created by our industry and those that work within it. In this issue’s column, we share images of joy from several airports, which hosted some memorable celebrations for Valentine’s Day. Love was in the air(port) at Amsterdam Schiphol, where four women in heart-patterned suits brought smiles right across the travel hub by giving away gifts to passengers and airport visitors to mark the big day (see also video below).

Meanwhile, there was an impressive in-airport initiative by Cyprus Duty Free, whose staff gave away flowers and special treats to passing travellers as violinists performed in the background during Valentine’s weekend (video below). In a post on LinkedIn, Aer Rianta International Retail & Marketing Manager Toni McDonald said this about the Cyprus Duty Free Valentine’s Day effort: “It’s the perfect time of year to show our love and appreciation to our customers and it is heart-warming to see so many faces lighting up with big smiles when entering the shops.”

The year’s most romantic day was also celebrated at Dubai International Airport by Dubai Airports (video below) and key partners such as Dubai Duty Free. The images and video on this page represent a snapshot of the many travel retailers and airports seizing the opportunity of this special day to bring smiles to the faces of travellers. We look forward to bringing you more heart-warming moments as the recovery gathers momentum.
