Duty Free Americas raises US$1 million to fight cancer
Duty Free Americas (DFA) hosted the 8th edition of its Charity Golf Tournament in Miami on 8 February, bringing together the travel retail community to join the fight against cancer. In a remarkable showcase of camaraderie and philanthropy, industry professionals raised US$1 million to support cancer research and treatment.
Funds raised during the event were directed toward research and treatments at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Florida.
The monies raised by event sponsors – Falic Family Foundation and Duty Free Americas – were matched dollar for dollar by the Miami Dolphins football team, a long-time supporter of the Sylvester Center.

The event attracted a strong show of support from the industry.
DFA worked closely with the Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC), the fundraising initiative of the Miami Dolphins Foundation, with each organisation making a US$500,000 commitment to Sylvester.
The sold-out Charity Golf Tournament garnered support through diamond, platinum, gold and silver sponsorships from leading brands in wines, spirits, fragrance, cosmetics and more. This, coupled with a silent auction and enticing raffle prizes, contributed to the event’s overwhelming success.
Each hole on the golf course was sponsored by a brand partner, offering a distinctive experience for attendees. The 18-hole scramble golf tournament was followed by an evening reception featuring cocktails and dinner.
The overwhelming interest in this year’s event had led to an early closure of registration due to reaching full capacity for both the golf tournament and dinner.
Duty Free Americas Chief Executive Officer (and a principal of the Falic Family Foundation) Jerome Falic said: “We could not be prouder of this year’s ambition to raise US$1 million in conjunction with the Miami Dolphins in support of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
“DFA’s annual Golf Charity Tournament is part of our ongoing commitment to give back to our community by funding initiatives that seek to understand and overcome devastating diseases like cancer.
“Giving back to the community is very important to me and my family, and together with DCC, we are part of ‘one team, one fight’ changing the narrative of cancer.”
