Travel Food Services & K Corporation Charitable Foundation – Karuna Seva Initiative
Travel Food Services (TFS), along with K Hospitality Corp, one of India’s largest homegrown hospitality and food service companies, made a huge and immediate impact on the lives of front-line workers, migrant labourers, the homeless and others in need during the first COVID-19 lockdown in India. In March 2020, TFS mobilised a focused volunteer team under its Karuna Seva initiative to serve over 1.35 million meals to vulnerable people. Starting at about 6,000 meals a day, the facility was scaled up to provide 40,000+ daily meals.

From kitchens at multiple locations across Bangalore and Mumbai, TFS volunteers cooked food for those most affected, in an initiative managed in conjunction with partner NGOs and government. TFS worked in close alliance with the K Corp Charitable Foundation, founded by Indian hospitality veteran Sunil Kapur. It also involved group companies including Blue Sea Catering and Banquets and LifeCo. TFS said at the time that its guiding principles of ‘Ownership, Transparency & Trust and People First’ defined the way it responded. “In connection to the Karuna Seva initiative, we hope our efforts in this difficult time help further our foundation’s work of food and nutrition for all. We are especially proud of our frontline workers who are moving ahead despite the challenges faced during the lockdown; making sacrifices and pressing forward with determination.”
