The Moodie Davitt eZine – Celebrating

editions

Memorable and landmark eZine editions (continued)

Issue 247

September 2018

The Moodie Davitt eZine has tracked the major business trends across our 300 issues. In this edition from September 2018, we discovered how Philip Morris International planned to rewrite the rules of tobacco engagement in encouraging smokers to switch to reduced risk products, notably through its most high-profile innovation, IQOS. In an extraordinary advertising campaign to coincide with World No Tobacco Day earlier that year, the company had announced its decision to “build its future without cigarettes” and go smoke-free. Martin Moodie travelled to Philip Morris’s state-of-the-art research and development centre in Switzerland to find out more.

Issue 258

March 2019

The Moodie Davitt Report’s unrivalled access to decision makers across the industry has seen the eZine feature many first and exclusive interviews down the years. This one took place in early 2019 soon after Lotte Duty Free CEO Kap Lee assumed his role – talking to Martin Moodie he outlined a grand ambition to drive the business to new heights.

Issue 271

November 2019

Since it first took place in 2003, The Trinity Forum has grown to become the world’s most influential airport commercial revenues conference, hosted in multiple stunning locations, featuring thought-leading presentations and unforgettable social moments. The last one to be held before the pandemic struck, hosted by Qatar Airways, Qatar Duty Free and Hamad International Airort in Doha in 2019, was among the most memorable yet, as our November 2019 edition underscored beautifully in words, images and video.

Issue 275

January 2020

This issue captured the blend of excitement and deep concern that converged in the build-up to one of the industry’s most critical trading periods, Lunar New Year, at the start of 2020. We took stock of the long and widening shadow cast over the celebrations with the outbreak of a new coronavirus strain, originating in Wuhan, China. With the virus spreading at startling speed and with devastating consequences, comparisons were drawn at the time with the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) health crisis of 2003. At this point, nobody yet understood that the world stood at the edge of the precipice – and that our industry was about to face its most severe and sustained challenge.

Issue 289

December 2020

In this edition we cast a look back at a year that humanity – and our industry – was glad to see recede in the rear view mirror. For our 2020 People of the Year selection, we turned the spotlight on the front-line heroes and heroines of aviation and travel retail. They ensured – even as a global pandemic raged – that airlines could fly, that airports could function and that stores and restaurants remained safe, hygienic and professionally run. With the assistance and input of our partners at airports, travel retailers, brand owners, airport promotion agencies and other service companies, we presented a memorable pictorial montage of some of those individuals and teams, representing their peers across the world and in all channels of the business. With the Travel Retail Superstars and FAB Superstars Awards programmes (to be presented at the Virtual Travel Retail Expo 2021 we aim to take that recognition to a new level.

Issue 290

January 2021

In this edition we assessed the multi-billion Euro, five-year duty free contract opportunity at Norway’s airports, where Avinor launched a tender for the business in early 2021. Crucially, and as with many other eZine features, we tracked the story across our platforms, from home page online to The Magazine to social media. That mirrored and accompanied a major marketing campaign from the airport company to promote and inform, ensuring the broadest possible coverage about the opportunity.

Issue 299

August 2021

In this edition we paid a visit to Hamad International, recently named the World’s Best Airport by travellers in the annual Skytrax survey, and captured first-hand the investment that is taking place in commercial and consumer activities, even amid the pandemic. We also revealed our list of the Top Travel Retailers in the world for 2020, with China Duty Free Group firmly established as the new number one.
