Qatar Duty Free celebrates 25th anniversary with multi-media campaign

‘25 has arrived’ – that’s the tagline in a spectacular airport-wide ‘takeover’ and multi-media campaign launched at Hamad International Airport by Qatar Duty Free to honour its 25th anniversary on 1 May.

As reported, the company opened for business in 2000 at the old Doha International Airport in the Qatari capital. The inauguration came three years after the relaunch of parent Qatar Airways under the leadership of the airline’s then-Group Chief Executive His Excellency Akbar Al Baker.

Over the ensuing quarter century, Qatar Duty Free rose from a fledgling start-up to become one of the industry’s most acclaimed travel retailers.

“As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, Hamad International Airport is coming alive with the magic of our 25th anniversary takeover,” the company noted. Qatar Duty Free has unveiled an immersive film to showcase “the surprises and unforgettable experiences awaiting travellers throughout the airport.”

The retailer said the takeover aims to recognise its partnerships with global brands, suppliers and the airport itself. In parallel with supporting activations at Hamad International Airport, Qatar Duty Free has also launched a global communications push via digital, social and out-of-home media channels.

Comment: The campaign reflects Qatar Duty Free’s aim to combine commercial growth with improved passenger experience as it enters a new phase of development.

In the May edition of The Moodie Davitt Report Magazine (digital and print) – published shortly to coincide with TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore (11-15 May) – Qatar Airways Chief Retail and Hospitality Officer Thabet Musleh tells The Moodie Davitt Report that Qatar Duty Free’s job is far from finished.

Musleh said: “The next six months are going to be incredible, and 2026 is already full steam ahead. We have got some amazing things and exclusives coming. We’re constantly innovating, evolving and looking at what our customers want and how we can deliver for them.” Watch out for much more to come from this fast-growing, groundbreaking duty free to food & beverage player.
