Travel Retail Highlights

Gebr. Heinemann expands Pre-Loved Luxury network

We feature our writers’ selection of recent eye-catching stories and images from around the world of travel retail.

Gebr. Heinemann this month opened a 20sq m Pre-Loved Luxury store at Copenhagen Airport, featuring a selection of certified second-hand items. The store’s performance will be tested for an initial year at the location.

The offer includes luxury bags from leading brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Chanel as well as other items.

The move carries weight for several reasons. It is the travel retailer’s first pre-loved standalone boutique at an airport. The company had previously introduced the concept onboard several cruise ships, such as Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas.

It also builds on the popularity of the pre-loved market and deepens its presence in the airport space.

Gebr. Heinemann noted that pre-loved products fascinate consumers who desire individuality, are focused on sustainable consumption and are price-sensitive.

The retailer said that the global market for pre-loved products accounts for around 5% of total sales in the fashion & accessories sector and is forecast to grow by up to +40%. Turnover is expected to reach US$350 billion as early as 2028.

Director Purchasing FAWJ (Fashion, Accessories, Watches and Jewelry) Jan Richter said: “Due to their high quality, luxury products are characterised by a long life cycle and are therefore particularly interesting for the pre-loved market.

“In addition, special and unique pieces can be purchased that are hard to find, so it is also about the availability of certain luxury items. There is also a focus on value-for-money. While our goal as a retailer is of course to generate sales, we also see it as our responsibility to act sustainably. The expansion of our Pre-Loved Luxury concept plays an important role in this. The opening of our new store in Copenhagen is a key step in this direction.”
