Sense of place to the fore as HMSHost captures Sacramento Airport contract

HMSHost, a division of travel experience retail to food & beverage company Avolta, will showcase local flair and cater to global tastes in a new F&B concessions programme at Sacramento International Airport. The company has been awarded a 15-year contract to operate nine dining and bar venues at the location, spanning 16,700sq ft across Terminals A and B.

The restaurateur will operate the dining venues as joint ventures with multiple Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) partners including LaTrelle’s, Skyview Concessions, JNK Elite Concessions Management and Kelly’s Place.

Four Sacramento brands will be integral to the concessions programme.

Cafe Bernardo, the Paragary Restaurant Group-owned brand, is a casual Sacramento concept based on the European tradition of café dining. Located in Terminal B, the venue will serve Cafe Bernardo’s ‘farm-to-fork’ menu, offer bar and patio seating, and have a dedicated quick-service counter for to-go options.

A second brand from the Paragary Restaurant Group, Centro Cocina Mexicana, will offer Mexican cuisine. The Terminal A restaurant from the 25-year-old brand will showcase Centro’s signature items in a quick-service format.

Well-known in Sacramento’s dining scene, the Magpie restaurant in Terminal A will offer a menu with cultural and agricultural influences from California’s Central Valley.

Bar venue New Helvetia Brewing Company is a community brewery brand. Its name is a nod to the city’s early roots.

In addition to these local brands, HMSHost will unveil a renovated Starbucks in Terminal B along with two hybrid Starbucks locations in Terminal A, both of which will have a complementary retail store.

One of the two Starbucks locations which will feature a retail element, Golden Grove Market

Both Sycamore Market and Golden Grove Market have been created in partnership with Avolta travel retailer Hudson and will offer travel essentials, snacks, tech, books, magazine, and local products and gifts.

The line-up is completed by two new HMSHost-operated Wendy’s restaurants, which will serve passengers in Terminals A and B.

Comment: Avolta builds on its strong track record of partnerships with local enterprises in this new programme at Sacramento Airport, which aims to evoke a vibrant sense of the region through culinary experiences. The addition of celebrated names from the city’s dining scene should add further lustre for visitors at this fast-growing regional airport.
