Sustainability Report: Capi
Capi and Renewd boost circular economy with Schiphol partnership
Consumer electronics airport retailer Capi and Renewd, a company specialising in certified pre-owned equipment, have teamed up to offer an environmentally friendly alternative to buying new electronics products at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The retailer described the partnership as “an important step towards promoting sustainability and the circular economy in airport retail”, with the collaboration offering pre-owned electronics products at Capi stores in Schiphol Plaza, Schiphol Lounge 1 and Schiphol Lounge 2.
Renewd – which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year – offers second-life devices that meet strict standards for functionality and quality.
The brand highlighted the global e-waste challenge by pointing out the International Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Forum estimates that a staggering 5.3 billion mobile phones were discarded in 2022 – this number is climbing significantly every year.

As part of its activities to tackle this issue, Renewd is also introducing an innovative trade-in stand inside Capi stores. At the stands, consumers can hand in their old smartphones and receive a financial benefit in return, allowing them to extend the life of their devices and reduce their environmental footprint.
The mobile devices will undergo Renewd quality control and be resold. This enterprise not only avoids more e-waste going to landfills, but also reduces the need for new materials and energy-intensive manufacturing processes.
Renewd Head of Marketing & Branding Georgina Lira said: “By working together, we are not only selling alternative electronics, but promoting a circular economy and empowering consumers to play an active role in reducing e-waste.”
Capi said the exclusive agreement with Renewd will be extended to its stores at other European aiports.
The retailer’s Director Category Management & Marketing Eline Westerhof commented: “By partnering with Renewd, we’re proud to offer travellers at Schiphol Airport the opportunity to make a sustainable choice without compromising quality or comfort.”
