Comment: China represented over 7% of Dubai Duty Free’s US$2 billion-plus in 2023 sales by nationality, a reminder of how important this shopper group is to the leading UAE travel retailer. That figure is growing fast as travel roars back – at its pre-pandemic peak Chinese travellers accounted for 17% of sales. Dubai International Airport welcomed back flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Xianyang, Shenzhen and Chengdu among other locations last year – with more routes to follow – all of which augurs well for Chinese spend at Dubai Duty Free during the Year of the Dragon.
