How China Duty Free Group is elevating cultural tourism

China Duty Free Group (CDFG) is marking Lunar New year and the Spring Festival with a series of themed activities, giveaways and live performances at cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Hainan.

The initiative aims to boost holiday consumption through an immersive ‘eat, drink, play, music, shopping’ experience that incorporates Sense of Place.

Until 18 February, cdf Haikou is promoting the development of ‘Duty Free+’ by showcasing over 800 domestic and international brands across 45 product categories. This includes beauty and skincare, clothing, luxury watches, gourmet food and home furnishings among others.

The marketing campaign includes customer incentives such as ‘ten million government consumption vouchers’ on Jitterbug, which offer significant price savings, plus consumers can avail of Chinese New Year-themed gifts.

Cultural entertainment programmes aim to bring Hainan’s traditions into the duty free environment, enhancing visitors’ experiences.

Comment: Like other CDFG campaigns, this drive over Lunar New Year sees the retailer leverage its working relationships with local partners in the hospitality space. For example, guests at many neighbouring hotels in Haikou can receive shopping perks and room packages are combined with shopping incentives.

Throughout February, tourists are offered shopping products alongside diversified tourism options from food to entertainment. As a cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex spokesperson said of the programme, “It welcomes the arrival of the Spring Festival season with better-quality duty free commodities, abundant brands, diversified marketing activities, convenient shopping environment and professional level of service – so as to provide tourists with a satisfactory consumption environment.”
